A piece of forest

Lately I have taken a new habit, meaning that I´m taking at least one hour every weekend for just walking in the woods. There are no rules, that I have to walk around the lake or walk 2-3-4 miles, I just do whatever I feel like...

Sometimes when I see a nice rock, I can´t resist, I lay down. Usually the sun has been warming up the stone during the day and it feels wonderful to feel that warmth radiating against my back. It´s strange how that hard stone can feel comfortable, but if you just try to find your place, it´s very nice.

Sometimes I´m lucky and find a place with a wonderful green "bedspread"...

If I´m in the mood, I take a book with me, read for a while, perhaps have a tiny picnic on a muffin or biscuit. Later in the autumn, when temperature drops, I have some hot chocolate in a vacuum flask. Most often I don´t have a book, I just lay down and look at the sky and the clouds, I make up stories and fantasies about the shapes I (think I ) see in the clouds while letting the sun charge my batteries and getting myself a nice tan.

Usually I´m out there alone, actually I prefer that, because most people I have been on walks with just never seem to stop talking. I like to listen to the sounds of the forest, the birds, the wind in the trees, some small animal among the bushes, or just enjoy the silence. Then there are the smells. It´s is something special with the smell in a forest. It is different if it is morning or evening, if it´s dry or rainy, sometimes I can sense the smell of mushrooms.

Then the beautiful colors! I love nature and I do believe that it is the most fantastic designer in the universe!

...last blueberry of the season...

When I come to this part, I pretend that the trolls live in the middle of this rock. There is an entrance if you look closer :)

...reminds me of the troll from Elsa Beskow´s Children of the Forest...

...which way to go?
Usually I don´t take pics while out there, because it changes everything. I found myself looking around with different eyes, tried to see what someone else would see. With a camera in my hand I became the observer instead of the experiencer. I won´t do this again, but this one time I wanted to bring a piece of forest back to a friend...

You live in such a beautiful place... and your walks in the forest are ones I wish I could take. You are so right about needing to see things without a camera. Your life is inspiring.. never boring! :)

The grass is always greener on the other side though, I´d love to trip up and down on the streets of NY...
